The heavy parcel that isn’t over-packaged

Martine, a modern Grandmother, makes her purchases online more and more frequently, even biscuits for her dog, Leon. She generally makes sure Leon never has to go without, and the deliveries are always on time. But what happened this time?

Packets of biscuits, compost, cement… Colissimo can deliver almost anything as long as it's in the right packaging.
Products like this are usually contained in kraft paper or plastic sheeting. This packaging, called primary, is designed to contain the material and make it easy to see when the goods are displayed in retail. When it's sufficiently reinforced and the material being shipped isn't too heavy, it can be sturdy enough to withstand shipping. It is also cheap and good for the planet as it doesn’t use secondary packaging (cardboard).

Unfortunately, that's not usually the case: it can burst, spilling all or some of its contents on the conveyors and/or in the platform, especially when in stacked bulk in trailers. The direct result: potential delays, merchandise loss and customer dissatisfaction.

Our recommendation for the perfect heavy parcel that isn’t over-packaged

To date, we can only recommend that you over-package the goods for shipping and that you make sure to limit the empty space. If possible, talk about the problem with your suppliers, so they can change their packaging, designing it for both presentation AND shipping. We also discuss these problems with the experts who helped us establish the Afnor specification for packaging problems.
